Dunk You Very Much

Just ran out of time this morning to do a complete and worthwhile blog so hopefully these few You Tube highlights will wet your appetite until I can get back to you with something that has substance.

First highlight is from athlete swingman Tom Abercrombie. The young New Zealand Breaker cleans up his own miss from the free throw line with a dunk.

Quite an explosive move and one I have not seen in a long time at the NBL level. There is no doubt Abercrombie has talent, but can he produce it on a regular basis for the Breakers?

The second highlight to come out of the Top End Challenge is from Adelaide 36ers import Cortez Groves.

Groves has the ability to produce a highlight and this is no exception. Down the pipe and over the top of new Breakers recruit Awvee Storey.

This play created a buzz in the top end over the weekend. I heard about it via many of the kids in the crowd, but it was not until I saw this footage that I realized how athletic the play was.

A couple of nice throw downs there JR. The first dunk is textbook boxing out, except they forget to actually grab the rebound. Nice to see an aggressive rebound and putback though.

JR none of them compare to your attempted self ally-oop last nite on the break hahaha

haha that would have to be the funniest thing you have done on and off the court!

JR was on break, got to the foul line and bounced the ball up so that it would bounce up near the ring for the jam... he caught it after a small fumble was no where near the ring and had to finish the oop with a lay-up...

no where near as pretty as any of the step back fading 3 bombs he hit in everyones face!

So the rumour is true...? You can't dunk anymore!

Good to see a bit of athleticism back in the NBL again. It feels like there hasn't been as much of that since the mid 90s days of Trimmingham, Talford, Ice Burton, Damian Keogh..... but I digress.

That Groves dunk was impressive and made to look even more impressive from a distance as he jumped from outside that little hockey semi-circle (or whatever it was) that looked like the 3pt line!

The Abercrombie dunk, if you wanted to get technical (which I don't really), he stepped over the FT line before the ball hit the rim ;)

the abercrombie dunk was clearly a violation, the groves dunk was nice, expecially the hang after the shot

Anon above me. Yes it was a violation, by a little bit. But plays like this put bums in seats and you have to be a little giving as a referee. If it was to win the game fair enough, but in the flow of play it was awesome to see.
