Larry Abney loves to celebrate a dunk. The former Fresno St, Townsville Croc, Cairns Taipan now plies his trade with Eiffel Towers in Holland and has found a new magical way to celebrate a throw down during the game.

Here in Australia we were used to my former teammate going with the tradition "Birdman" hand gesture. All of my taunting about him not being the original "Birdman" must have got him thinking of new material once he left our shores.

Check out the video footage below. Abney has keep it all in the bird family (not Larry), but he has gone from phalange flapper to an old favourite of mine, " The Chicken Dance".

Once again not to original but when you witness his David Copperfield like abilities and the way it instantly stops the game, you can do nothing but appreciate his new found creativity.

Kids, do not be alarmed, Larry did find his way out of the box and back on court.

Between The Madness

Today I'm just going with a series of You Tube videos as Larry Abney refreshed my memory about a certain Fresno St team back in the late 90's. You could describe them as a renegade team coached by one of the greats of college basketball, Jerry Tarkanian.

I remember watching this documentary way back when he hit the TV screen, thinking this cannot be true.

Well, I had the chance to find out first hand how real it was. It was the first thing I asked Larry Abney about when we became teammates here in Townsville. Larry was very honest and upfront about the whole deal, especially when I asked him about one of his teammates pulling out some Samurai swords on the odd occassion.

I have sat here and watched it again as another former teammate in Willie Farley also stars in the doco.

The Birdman Swoops In On "The OT"

I'm going to be bias here and say that former Cairns import Larry Abney has produced one of the most candid interviews ever, let alone on "The OT".

Hours before "The Birdman" boarded a plane back to the States, he tells his story about what happened in Cairns over the past few weeks. Also he talks about Taipans coach Alan Black, while he tells a story or two about a former teammate.

All those rumours about him heading to the South Dragons are not true.
